Back on June 23, 2005 I was taking some Pictures of M51 the Whirlpool Galaxy. A few cloudy days went by and I was able to take more pictures of M51 on June 28, 2005 and noticed a difference in the new picture. I started campairing pictures and there it was a spot that was not the a few day’s before. I edited the two pics and made sure they were dated and E-mailed them to the university of Hawaii and Received this reply.
Dear Daniel Congratatulations!
You found a supernova in M51, which exploded on June 27th
You weren’t the first to find it, but I think you are entitled to buy yourself a beer to celebrate!

This means that I made an independent discovery but was not the first one to call it in so I can not name it, but I made the discovery on my own. The only thing that prevented me from sending it in sooner was bad weather. It was very exciting and I will keep searching for new objects and hopfully will get to make a first discovery
